HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Gov. Dannel P. Malloy
has declared a state of emergency in Connecticut due to an October snow
storm that has knocked out to power to half a million customers.
The governor said Saturday evening that the nor'easter is to blame for at least one death in Connecticut, a person who was killed in a traffic accident in Colchester.
The storm is forecast to bring up to a foot or more of snow to much of the state. Bill Simpson of the National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass., says it is sure to set records for October snowfall in Connecticut.
Connecticut Light & Power is reporting more than 480,000 customers without power. The United Illuminating Company is reporting more than 16,000 customers without power in its service area around Bridgeport.
